All the 2nd generation trains of the Metro of Athens are now equipped with air-conditioning units

All the 2nd generation trains (21 in total) of the Athens Metro are now fully air-conditioned. Following the guidelines provided by the framework for upgrading the system, the Athens Metro has completed the installation of a complete air-conditioning system at the remaining 14 (out of 21) 2nd generation trains of the Metro network.
The whole project, with an overall budget of € 5.500.000 was recently completed, with the installation of 168 modern air-conditioning units (12 units / train) and currently, before the summer period, all the second generation trains offer apart from comfort, reliability and speed, the best possible temperature conditions. Until now, only seven 2nd generation trains were equipped with air-conditioning units. These trains were operating at Line 3 of the Metro network, having the Airport as the terminal station.

At the same time, the Hellenic Ministry for the Environment, Physical Planning and Public Works and the Attiko Metro examine solutions for the installation of air-conditioning units also at the 1st generation trains of the Metro (delivered in 1999), which were initially constructed with only an air ventilation and heating system and without provision for the installation of air-conditioning units.

It is important to note that the 17 new trains (3rd generation) of the Metro, whose provision process is currently in progress, will all be equipped from the very beginning with a modern air-conditioning system.

ATHENS, July 16 (Reuters) – Greece is pushing back planned stake sales in natural gas monopoly DEPA and the Athens airport to 2010, due to complications and adverse market conditions, officials said on Thursday.

“It seems that the (DEPA) stake sale will not be completed in 2009 and moves back to 2010,” a senior government official who declined to be named told Reuters.

“A listing of the Athens International Airport will be reexamined in 2010… current economic and market conditions are not encouraging,” said another government official who requested anonymity.
